Training Funding Options
More than one way to pay for training.
Nuel Foundation works with several public funding sources for individuals — more than one may apply to you. Below is an overview to help you understand what's out there before you apply.
Texas Workforce Commission
Self-Sufficiency Fund
A Texas Workforce Commission training grant that helps individuals obtain industry-recognized credentials and move into an occupation that supports long-term self-sufficiency.
Basic eligibility
-
Adults receiving public assistance such as SNAP or TANF
-
Individuals at risk of becoming dependent on public assistance
-
Individuals earning under $37,000/year with a dependent child
-
Youth ages 18–24 who are part of a low-income household

Federal · Local Workforce Boards
Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
A federal program that funds career and training services for eligible Adults, Dislocated Workers, and Youth (ages 17–24) through local Workforce Solutions offices, using an Eligible Training Provider List — which Nuel Foundation is on.
Basic eligibility
-
Unemployed or underemployed adults
-
Dislocated workers
-
Youth ages 17–24, in or out of school (priority for out-of-school youth)
-
Veterans, with additional support services available
WIOA eligibility is determined individually by your local Workforce Solutions counselor — it's always worth applying rather than assuming you don't qualify.

How to begin
Tell us you're interested
Submit the Training Interest Form and answer the funding question — even "not sure" is a fine answer.
Starting the eligibility process.
We point you the right way
We'll connect you with the appropriate workforce organization (TWC, your local Workforce Solutions office) to begin the formal eligibility determination.
They determine eligibility
The workforce organization — not Nuel Foundation — makes the final funding decision based on your individual circumstances.
Please note: Submitting the Training Interest Form does not guarantee funding. Final eligibility for the Self-Sufficiency Fund, WIOA, or any other public funding source is determined by the appropriate workforce organization, not by Nuel Foundation.
If you don't qualify for funding
Self-pay is still an option.
Not everyone needs — or qualifies for — public funding, and that's fine. Applicants who don't qualify, or who'd simply rather pay their own way, can self-pay for training directly. Reach out and we'll walk you through current pricing and payment options for your track.
